PREPARATION FOR THE QATAR PRIX DE L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE:

- QATAR PRIX VERMEILLE -

6th and penultimate flat stage of the EPIQE Series

The Qatar Prix Vermeille is run over the classic distance of a mile-and-a-half, just like the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

This Group 1 race boasts a purse of 350,000 euros and is contested by some of Europe’s most talented mares and fillies.

Often the first time that the year’s 3-year-old fillies come up against their more experienced counterparts, the Qatar Prix Vermeille was won by Zarkava in 2008 and by Trêve in 2013, two fillies that were unbeaten aged 3 and went on to triumph over their male peers in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe three weeks later!

This race is closely followed by racing connoisseurs, as seven of the last ten winners of the Arc − the most important flat race in the world and the final flat stage of the EPIQE Series – have been female.

- QATAR PRIX FOY -

A race reserved for male and female thoroughbreds aged 4 and over, the Qatar Prix Foy brings together Europe’s best older horses that favour the classic mile-and-a-half distance.

With a purse of 130,000 euros, this Group 2 event has seen many of its winners go on to place in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe three weeks later, such as Japanese thoroughbreds Orfèvre and El Condor Pasa.

- QATAR PRIX NIEL -

The Qatar Prix Niel, a Group 2 race with a purse of 130,000 euros that is open to 3-year-old colts and fillies, is a last opportunity for these young champions to measure up to one another over the classic mile-and-a-half distance before lining up alongside their elders in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Regularly finishing in the frame in the Arc, numerous winners of the Qatar Prix Niel have gone on to win this Holy Grail of flat races, most recently Rail Link, Hurricane Run and Dalakhani.

QATAR RACING AND EQUESTRAIN CLUB (QREC)

/ SPONSOR OFFICIAL
bloc-QREC-inside.jpg

Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) and France Galop, a marriage of two great equestrian cultures

Qatar is heavily invested in the world of horses, and with the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) the emirate hopes to demonstrate its attachment to this majestic animal. The QREC is in charge of organising Qatari promotions both at home and through strong partnerships all over the world.

Since 2008, the QREC has been linked with the Qatar au Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and fourteen other Group races in France, making it an example for other sponsors to follow. Thanks to the support of this powerful partner, France Galop is able to organise the most richly-rewarded turf race in the world, which boasts five million euros in prize money.

Qatar, which sponsors the whole Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Weekend, also lends significant support to the Arab racing industry in France. Since 2014, the purse for the Qatar Arabian World Cup − which is held on the same day as the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe – has swelled, reaching a million euros for the first time in its history.

Qatar also sponsors numerous other high-profile equestrian events, particularly in Great Britain (Glorious Meeting at Goodwood, Champions’ Day at Ascot), through Qatari shareholding company QIPCO.

At the beginning of the 21st century, members of Qatar’s ruling family (Al Thani) founded what is now one of the most powerful stables on the planet. With horses running under different family jerseys, this stable is extremely prominent both in breeding circles and in competition.

These  prestigious flat and trotting races, run on France's most magnificent  racecourses, all lead to the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe for flat  racehorses and the Prix d’Amérique Opodo for trotters.

Lanfranco Dettori won the EPIQE Series championship in 2017!

The  world's greatest jockeys coupled with the very best mounts measure up  to one another in France's seven most prestigious flat races, with just  one objective in mind: clinching the title in the all-important final  stage, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe!

Race after race, the  participants use their talent and tactics to amass a maximum number of  points, which count towards the final rankings.

After  his victory in the 96th edition of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe,  Italian jockey Lanfranco Dettori won the EPIQE series in 2017!
